App Permissions
The device permissions REDENES uses and why each one matters.
REDENES asks for several device permissions so it can deliver alerts, find your location, scan codes, and capture audio for messages. Each request comes with a short explanation of how that permission is used. You stay in control — you can grant or deny any permission, and change your mind later in your device Settings.
Overview
Permissions are requested in two places: during onboarding, and again by individual features the first time you use them. The three core permissions handled during onboarding are push notifications, critical alerts, and location.

REDENES states that location data is used only by you and your agency — not by the company and not shared with any third party.
Getting Here
- Permissions are first requested during First Launch & Onboarding.
- Other permissions are requested by features the first time you use them (for example, the camera when you scan a code).
- You can review and change every permission any time in your device Settings.
Grant the Core Permissions
During onboarding the app guides you through the three core permissions.
- On each permission slide, tap Next.
- When your device's system prompt appears, choose to allow the permission.
- For location, choose Allow While Using App so the app can share your position in the field.
Critical alerts can sound even when your phone is on silent — that is what makes them effective for urgent dispatches. Denying them means an urgent alert may arrive silently.
Understand a Permission Request
Before a feature asks the system for a permission, REDENES shows its own explanation card so you know exactly why. The card has a title, a description, an OK button that continues to your device's system prompt, and a back control that cancels without asking.
Here is every card the app can show, with its exact wording.

To answer a card:
- Read the title, which names the permission being requested.
- Read the description, which explains exactly how that feature uses it.
- Tap OK to continue to your device's system prompt, or the back control to cancel and stay where you are.
Tapping the back control on an explanation card does not deny the permission permanently. The card appears again the next time you use the feature that needs it.
Fix a Denied Permission
If you denied a permission and a feature needs it, the app helps you re-enable it.
The Permission Required pop-up
When the app starts, and every time it returns to the foreground, it checks location and notification permissions. If either is off, a pop-up lists what is missing.

- Read the list of permissions that are switched off.
- Tap Settings to jump straight to the app's permission page in your device Settings.
- Turn the permission on.
- Return to the app. It re-checks immediately and reports the new state to your agency.
- Or tap the back control to dismiss the pop-up and continue with reduced functionality.
The warning banner
Alongside the pop-up, a banner appears across the app reading "Permissions might effect app function". It stays visible until every checked permission is granted, then disappears on its own.
Permission Denied alerts
Individual features show a plain alert when they cannot run. The wording always names the permission:
- Title: "Location Permission Denied"
- Message: "Please enable location permission in settings to use this feature."
- Tapping OK opens Settings so you can fix it quickly.
Turning a permission off in Settings while the app is running does not break the app, but the feature that needs it will stop working immediately — for example, your position stops updating on the map the moment location is revoked.
What Your Agency Can See
Granting a permission does not hand your data to everyone.

How This Connects
Permissions are checked in several places, and the result is shared with your agency so administrators know which devices can actually receive alerts.
- The three core permissions are first requested on the slides described in First Launch & Onboarding.
- The same check runs on Name Your Device, on Sign In, and again on the Main Dashboard & Tab Bar — which is why the warning banner can appear before you have even signed in.
- Every time you come back from device Settings, the app re-reads your permissions and sends the updated state to your agency, so their device list stays accurate without you doing anything.
- Camera permission is what the Scan button in the dashboard header needs. If you deny it, the scanner simply will not open. See Main Dashboard & Tab Bar.
- Losing signal does not change your permissions — they are device settings and remain exactly as you left them. What cannot happen offline is reporting the change to your agency; the app sends the updated permission state the next time it reaches the server.
Troubleshooting

| Alerts arrive silently | Critical Alerts is off. Turn it on in the app's notification settings in device Settings. |
| No alerts arrive at all | Notifications are off. Turn them on, then reopen the app so it can re-register for alerts. |
| The map shows no position for you | Location is off or set to a stricter option. Choose Allow While Using App or better. |
| The scanner will not open | Camera permission is denied. Allow it in device Settings. |
| Voice entry does nothing | Microphone, speech recognition, or both are denied. Both are needed for speech to text. |
| A nearby device will not connect | Local Network permission is denied. Allow it in device Settings. |
| The pop-up keeps appearing | One of the listed permissions is still off. It reappears at every launch until all are granted, or you dismiss it each time. |
