Menu Items

Look up what each radio menu code means in conventional and trunking modes.

Radio menus are terse: four or five capital letters on a small display. This screen turns those codes into plain language, one tab for conventional operation and one for trunking, because the menu the radio offers depends on the kind of channel you are on. Each row gives the item's name and a short description of what the feature does.

The active tab's label turns red and gains an underline. You can tap a tab or swipe left and right, and the screen keeps its place when you rotate the device.

Only the menu items included in this codeplug appear on each tab, so a short list means the radio simply offers fewer menu options — not that the lookup failed.

Getting Here

1. From the Home screen, open References.
2. Select Communications.
3. Choose a codeplug on the Radio Info screen.
4. Tap Menu Items on the hub.

You can also reach the same lookup filtered to one channel: open a channel and use its Menu Items tab, described in Zone & Channel Details.

Viewing Conventional Menu Items

1. The screen opens on the CNV tab.
2. If you are on the other tab, tap CNV or swipe right.
3. Read down the list for the item name and its description.

Viewing Trunking Menu Items

1. Tap TRK, or swipe left.
2. The trunking items load for this codeplug.
3. Read the names and descriptions the same way.

caution

Check the tab that matches the channel you are on. A menu option that exists on a trunked channel may simply not be offered on a conventional one, and the radio follows the channel, not the tab you happen to be reading.

Common Codes and What They Mean

These are the codes most often seen on radio displays, with the plain-language meaning you can expect. Which of them appear on your radio depends on the codeplug.

LOGF	Auto Login	Automatically logs the radio into a system on startup.
BATT	Battery	Shows current battery charge and health information.
BT	Bluetooth	Access and manage Bluetooth settings and pairings.
CHAN	Channel	Selects the current channel or talkgroup within a zone.
CLCK	Clock	Shows and allows adjustment of the radio's time and date.
DIR	Direct Mode	Enables radio-to-radio communication without a repeater.
EMER	Emergency	Starts an emergency alert or call, when configured.
GPS	GPS Info	Shows current GPS location and satellite fix status.
HOME	Home Channel	Returns the radio to its default home zone and channel.
LOC	Location	Another label for GPS Info, showing coordinates and status.
MPL	Monitor PL/DPL	Opens the squelch so all traffic on the channel is heard.
MSG	Messages	Opens the inbox for receiving and reading text messages.
MUTE	Mute	Temporarily silences incoming audio and alert tones.
PHON	Phone	Dials a phone number, when telephone interconnect is enabled.
PRFL	Profile	Switches between operational profiles, such as normal and covert.
RCL	Recall	Recalls the last used channel or talkgroup.
SCAN	Scan	Turns scan mode on or off to monitor multiple channels.
SCNL	Scan List	Selects or edits the current scan list.
TX PWR	Transmit Power	Adjusts the radio's transmit power, high or low.
VSEL	Volume Select	Adjusts specific tone or alert volume levels.
ZNPR	Zone Picker	Quick access to select both zone and channel.
ZONE	Zone	Selects a different channel group, or zone.

The two codes worth knowing before anything else are ZONE and CHAN — between them they get you to any channel on the radio — and MPL, because it changes what you can hear on a channel.

Switching Tabs and Loading

Each tab loads its own items.

What you do	What happens
Open the screen	The conventional items load
Switch to TRK the first time	The trunking items load, with a loading indicator
Switch back and forth afterwards	The lists are already loaded, so the tabs refresh without a visible wait
Rotate the device	The screen keeps the tab you were on

Loading	A loading indicator, shown only while that tab's list is still empty
Empty tab	An empty list — the codeplug offers no menu items for that mode
Request failed	An alert with the message returned by the server
Codeplug not downloaded, no connection	The list is read from the local copy, or stays empty if there is none

How This Connects

• Where the items come from. Menu items belong to the codeplug you opened on Radio Info, and each tab is fetched for its own mode as you open it. With no connection the same items are read from the downloaded copy on the device.
• The same lookup inside a channel. A channel's Menu Items tab shows this list filtered to that channel's type, so you do not have to remember whether you are on a conventional or a trunked channel — see Zone & Channel Details.
• Codes describe features, buttons trigger them. A feature named here is often also assigned to a physical control, which is listed in Buttons & Switches with its short press and long press behavior.
• MPL ties into squelch. The MPL item relates directly to the selectable tone positions in MPL Radio List and the gating rules in MPL Configuration.
• ZONE and CHAN map to the lists. The zones and channels those codes step through are the same ones you browse in Zones and Channels.
• Used with incidents. A comms plan instruction such as "scan off" or "talkaround" translates into a code here and a control in Buttons & Switches — see Incident Comms Tab.
• Offline and reconnect. Both tabs read offline for a downloaded codeplug. When the connection returns, leave the screen and reopen it so the current items are fetched.

Troubleshooting

If this happens	What to do
A tab is empty	The codeplug offers no menu items for that mode. Check the other tab to confirm the screen loaded.
A code on your radio is not in the list	That code is not part of this codeplug's menu, or you are reading the wrong tab. Check the channel type.
Descriptions are missing on some rows	The codeplug supplies no description for those items. The name is still the reliable part.
The tab will not switch	Swipe fully across, or tap the tab label. Give the first switch a moment while its list loads.
The items do not match your radio	Confirm you opened the codeplug that matches the radio in your hand — check the hub header.
You need the codes for one channel only	Open that channel and use its Menu Items tab instead.
The list is empty offline	This codeplug has not been downloaded. Open it once while connected.
An alert with a server message appears	The fetch failed. Check your connection and switch tabs again to retry.
