Group Chat Details

See who is in a group, add or remove members, and change the group's name and color.

This screen shows every member of a group conversation along with the group's name and its colored initials badge. From here you can add or remove people, rename and recolor the group, and tap any member to open their directory profile. The layout rearranges itself for portrait, landscape, and tablet screens.

Overview

Control	What it does
Initials badge	A large badge built from the first letters of the group name's first two words.
Group name	The group's current name, shown under the badge.
Member list	One row per member, sorted by first name.
Add button	Opens the people picker so you can change who is in the group.
Three-dot button	Opens the popup for renaming and recoloring the group.
Member row	Tap to open that person's directory profile.
Back button	Returns to the conversation.

Reading a member row

Element	What it tells you
Initials badge	The member's initials, taken from their first and last name.
Name	The member's full name.
Agency label	Your own agency's name for your colleagues, or the partner agency's name for a Mutual Aid member. Blank if the agency cannot be matched.
Color marker	A green marker beside each row.

Getting Here

1. Open a group conversation from the Messages list.
2. Tap the group's name in the header.
3. The group details screen appears.

The header only leads here for a group with more than two members. For a one-on-one chat, tapping the header opens the other person's profile instead. For a user-group or campaign thread, and for any conversation that has been closed, removed, or disabled, the header is not tappable at all.

On a user-group or campaign thread the add button and the three-dot button are hidden, because membership and naming for those threads are managed by your agency rather than from the app.

Add or Remove Members

1. Tap the add button.
2. The people picker opens in edit mode with everyone who is currently in the group already checked — see Start a New Chat.
3. Tap extra people to add them, and tap current members to uncheck them.
4. Tap Update. Only the difference is sent: added people are added, unchecked people are removed, and unchanged members are left alone.
5. You are returned here, and the list reflects the new membership.

caution

A group must keep more than two members in total. If your selection leaves too few, the app shows "Minimum 2 members required for a group" and nothing is saved.

Rename and Recolor the Group

1. Tap the three-dot button.
2. A popup opens pre-filled with the group's current name and color.
3. Type a new name, pick a new color, or both.
4. Confirm. The name and the initials badge update here, and the same name and color appear in the conversation header and on the Messages list.

Groups are easier to pick out of a long list when the name says what the group is for and the color matches how urgent it is. See Rename a Chat for the rename popup used elsewhere in Messages.

View a Member's Profile

1. Tap any member row.
2. Their directory profile opens, with the contact details your agency has recorded for them.
3. Use the back button to return to the group details.

Empty and Loading States

Situation	What you see
Opening the screen	The list is built from the stored copy of the group, so it appears immediately.
Saving a rename	A brief loading indicator while the change is sent, then the updated name.
A member whose directory record is missing	That row is not shown, because the app cannot resolve a name for them.
A member from an agency you cannot see	The row appears with an empty agency label.
Landscape or tablet	The badge and the member list sit side by side instead of stacked.

How This Connects

• Where the member list comes from. The group record stores the member list as person-and-agency pairs. This screen matches each pair against your agency directory and your Mutual Aid partner directories to produce the name, initials, and agency label you see. That is why a member looks the same here as in the Directory module.
• What updates it. The group record is refreshed by the app's normal sync and by any change you make here. A rename is written to your device first and then sent to the server, so the new name is visible straight away and reaches everyone else once it syncs.
• Shared with other screens. The same name and color drive the conversation header in Chat View and the row on the Messages List. The add button reuses the people picker from Start a New Chat.
• Chats and incidents. A group that belongs to an incident is still shown here, but the incident controls its life: when the incident closes, the conversation becomes read-only and the editing controls stop being reachable from the header.
• Offline behavior. Reading the member list and opening a profile both work offline because everything is stored on your device. Renaming saves locally and syncs when the connection returns. Adding and removing members needs a connection, because the add and remove requests go straight to the server.

Troubleshooting

If this happens	What to do
The add and three-dot buttons are missing	This is a user-group or campaign thread. Its membership and name are managed by your agency.
Tapping the header does not open this screen	The conversation has two members or fewer, or it has been closed, removed, or disabled.
A member is missing from the list	Their directory record has not synced yet. Let the app sync and reopen the screen.
A member's agency is blank	The app could not match their agency, usually because that partner directory has not synced.
"Minimum 2 members required for a group"	Your edit would leave the group too small. Add someone back and tap Update again.
A member you removed is still listed	The remove request had not reached the server. Reconnect and repeat the change.
A rename did not reach the rest of the group	The change is stored locally until it syncs. Stay connected for a moment after saving.
