Street View

See a street-level, 360° view of any point on the map.

Street View opens a full-screen, street-level panorama at a point you choose. You can drag to look around and pinch to zoom, which helps you recognise buildings, driveways, gates, hydrants and landmarks before you arrive rather than working it out on scene.

Getting Here​

There are several ways in, depending on where you already are.

From the Reference Map​

  1. Open the map's menu and tap Street View.
  2. The map re-centers on you and a pin appears in the middle of the screen.
  3. Pan and zoom the map until the pin sits on the building or junction you care about. The bar at the bottom shows the address found there and updates as you move.
  4. Tap Open Street View on the bottom bar.

From the Map screen​

  1. Find the point first — with Location Search or Coordinate Search.
  2. Open the three-dot menu and tap Street View. The panorama opens at the point you selected.

From a marker on the map​

  1. Tap the marker.
  2. A prompt appears: Street View — Are you sure you want to open street view?
  3. Tap Yes to open the panorama, or No to stay on the map.

Look Around a Location​

  1. The screen opens titled Street View and loads the nearest available imagery to the point you chose.
  2. Drag in any direction to turn and look around.
  3. Pinch to zoom in and out.
  4. Tap the arrows along the road to move to the next available position.
  5. Tap Back when you are finished. Any request still loading is cancelled as you leave.
tip

Before responding to a structure, look for the things a map cannot tell you — which side the entrance is on, whether the driveway will take a rig, where the gates and hydrants are, and how tight the turn in is.

note

The panorama opens at the nearest imagery to your point, not necessarily at the exact point. On a long driveway or a back lot, the view you get may be from the road some distance away.

When There Is No Imagery​

Street-level imagery does not exist everywhere — rural roads, private land, service tracks and new developments often have none.

If nothing can be loaded near your point you will see Alert with the message Street view not available for this location. Tap OK, then Back, and try a point closer to a public road.

Street View needs a connection. The imagery is fetched live and is not part of any offline map download, so this screen cannot be used in a dead spot even where you have downloaded the map tiles.

How This Connects​

  • The point Street View opens at comes from wherever you launched it: the pin on the Reference Map, the searched or typed point on Map, or a marker's own coordinate on a saved map.
  • The address shown on the bottom bar before you open the panorama is the same address lookup used by Location Reference. It is worked out from the pin's coordinate — see Coordinate Format.
  • Imagery is served live from an external mapping service, separate from your organization's base map styles and layers. That is why a downloaded offline area does not include it, and why changing your base map in Map Style Options has no effect here.
  • The same street view screen is reachable from an incident's Maps tab, so you can size up an incident address the same way.
  • Nothing you do in Street View is saved or shared. To leave something behind for the team — an access note, a gate, a hydrant — place a marker on a saved map, where a Street View button on the marker takes you straight back here.

Troubleshooting​

Street view not available for this locationThere is no imagery near that point. Tap OK, go back, and pick a point closer to a public road.
The screen is black or stays blankThe imagery is still loading on a weak connection. Wait a moment; if nothing appears, go back and try again.
It will not load at allStreet View needs a connection. It is not included in offline map downloads.
The view is nowhere near your pointIt opened at the nearest available imagery, which can be some way off on private or rural land. Move the pin closer to the road and try again.
The imagery looks oldStreet-level imagery is captured periodically, so it can be several years out of date. Treat it as a guide, not as current conditions.
Dragging does nothingUse one finger to drag and turn; two fingers pinch to zoom. If the panorama is still loading it will not respond yet.
You cannot find Street View on the menuIt is on both the Map and Reference Map menus. On the Reference Map you must also tap Open Street View on the bottom bar after placing the pin.
