Unit Overview

See the people on a single unit, open their contact cards, or pick members to split off.

The Unit Overview popup is the roster for one unit. It lists every assigned person with an initials badge and their name. In its normal mode the list is read-only and tapping a person opens their contact card. When it opens as Split Unit, checkboxes appear so you can choose the members who will move into a new unit.

The two modes

Mode	Header reads	Behaviour
View the roster	The unit's name	No checkboxes, no Done. Tapping a person opens their contact card.
Split the unit	Split Unit	Checkboxes on every row and a Done button at the bottom. Tapping a person toggles their checkbox instead of opening a card.

note

A unit with only one person cannot be split, so in split mode the checkboxes and Done button are hidden and the list is just a roster. Add a second member to the unit first if you need to split it.

Getting Here

1. Open an incident and switch to the Command view.
2. Tap a unit on the command board.
3. Choose the option that shows the unit's personnel to open the roster, or choose Split to open the same list in split mode.
4. The popup opens with the roster for that unit.

Split appears on a unit card only when your role is allowed to edit the command board. On a read-only incident you can still open the roster and view contact cards.

View Unit Members

1. Read the header title to confirm which unit you are looking at.
2. Scroll the list. Each row shows a two-letter initials badge and the person's full name, in the order they are held on the unit.
3. Tap any person to open their Contact Details card over the top of the list. Closing the card returns you to the same spot.

caution

If a person is not in the agency directory cached on this device, tapping their row does nothing at all. The name is coming from the command board, but the contact card comes from the directory, and the two can be out of step until the app syncs.

Split Members Into a New Unit

1. Open the popup in split mode. The header reads Split Unit and a checkbox appears on every row.
2. Tap each person who should move into the new unit. A filled checkmark marks them, an empty square leaves them where they are.
3. Leave at least one person unchecked. Those unchecked members stay on the original unit.
4. Tap Done. The checked members are taken off the current unit and carried into a new unit, and the naming step opens so you can name it.

The message Please leave at least one personnel unchecked appears as a brief on-screen notice and the split does not go ahead. Deselect at least one person and tap Done again.

What the new unit inherits

The unit created by a split starts as a copy of the original, apart from its members.

Because the new unit starts with the original's name, code, and note, change the name in the next step to something distinguishable, and check the note on both halves afterward in Command Notes so neither one carries a stale status.

Loading and Empty States

How This Connects

The roster shown here is the unit's personnel list as held on the incident's command board. Nothing on this screen is fetched fresh, which is why it opens instantly and works with no connection.

• The same people appear under this unit in Command Resources, in the personnel view of Tasks & Units, on PAR accountability checks, and in Certifications Data.
• Contact cards are pulled from your agency directory as cached on this device, not from the board.
• Splitting immediately changes the board. The original unit loses the members you moved, and a second unit appears once you name it in Split a Unit. Head counts everywhere else update to match, including the counts shown in the unit picker.
• A split can be split again. Later splits stay tied back to the same original unit, so the family of units created from one unit can still be recognized as related.

When you are offline, the split is recorded on your device and goes out with the rest of your board changes once you reconnect. Until then other responders still see the original single unit, so pass the split along by radio if it matters operationally right away.

Troubleshooting

If this happens	What to do
No checkboxes in split mode	The unit has only one person, so there is nothing to split off. Add a member first.
Please leave at least one personnel unchecked appears	You checked everybody. Uncheck at least one person so the original unit keeps a crew.
Done closed the popup and nothing happened	Nothing was checked. Reopen split mode and check the members who should move.
Tapping a person does nothing	They are not in the directory cached on this device. Reconnect, let the app sync, and try again.
Both units have the same name on the board	The new unit starts with the original's name. Rename it, and see Split a Unit for the naming step.
Split is missing from the unit card	Your role cannot edit the command board for this incident.
The roster looks out of date	Close the popup and reopen it, so it rereads the board.
