Map Shapes & Objects List
Manage the saved markers, freehand drawings, and polygons that overlay your incident map, organized into folders.
This list is the control panel for everything saved on the map. Objects are grouped into folders, and a checkbox on each row decides whether that object is drawn on the map. Folder checkboxes flip everything inside at once, and each row can be opened to view or edit the object itself. Changes take effect on the map immediately.

Overview
| Control | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Folder header | Names a group of objects and expands or collapses it | Named folders collapsed |
| Folder checkbox | Turns every object in the folder on or off together | Reflects the folder's saved setting |
| Folder header arrow | Points down when open, right when closed | Right |
| Folder edit button | Opens that folder for editing and closes this list | Shown unless the list is view-only |
| Object row checkbox | Shows or hides that single object on the map | Checked if the object is currently shown |
| Object View button | Opens that object for viewing and closes this list | Always |
| Object Edit button | Opens that object for editing and closes this list | Shown unless the list is view-only |
| Done button | Closes the list | — |
Object types
Every row carries a type label so you can tell at a glance what it is.
| Label | What it is |
|---|---|
| Marker | A single pin dropped on the map, whether you placed it or it came from the system |
| Freehand | A line drawn with your finger |
| Polygon | A filled area, such as a zone drawn in Task Maps |
An object of an unrecognized type shows a blank type label. The row still works normally.
Objects that do not belong to any folder are gathered into an unnamed group at the very bottom of the list, and that group is already expanded when the list opens. It has no header, no folder checkbox, and no folder edit button, so those objects can only be toggled one at a time.
Getting Here
- Open an incident and go to the Maps tab.
- Open the map's saved shapes and objects control.
- The list appears with your folders listed and the unfoldered objects expanded at the bottom.
The list grows to fit its contents rather than scrolling inside a fixed box, so a long list makes a tall card. Collapse folders you are not using to bring it back to a readable size.
Show or Hide Individual Objects
- Tap a folder header to expand it so its objects are visible.
- Each object row shows a checkbox, the object's name, and its type label.
- Tap the row to toggle the checkbox. A filled checkmark means the object is drawn on the map; an empty square means it is hidden.
- The change is saved and applied to the map as you tap. There is nothing to confirm.
Hiding rather than deleting is the safer habit during an incident. A hidden object keeps its shape, name, and folder, so you can bring it back in one tap when it is relevant again.
Toggle a Whole Folder
- Tap a folder's checkbox to switch everything inside it at once.
- Checking the folder shows every object in it; unchecking it hides every object in it.
- The folder checkbox also keeps itself in step with its contents. Tick the last unchecked object in a folder and the folder checkbox fills in; untick the last checked one and it empties.
- A folder's setting is remembered, so it comes back the same way next time you open the list.
A folder checkbox is all-or-nothing. If you have carefully shown three objects out of ten in a folder, tapping the folder checkbox overwrites all ten. Toggle the rows individually when you want a mixed selection.
View or Edit an Object
- Tap an object's View button to open it for viewing. The list closes and the object opens on the map.
- Tap an object's Edit button to open it for editing instead.
- To change a folder itself, such as its name, tap the edit button on the folder header. The list closes and the folder opens for editing.
The edit buttons on folders and object rows are hidden when the list is opened in view-only mode. You can still expand folders, toggle visibility, and use View, but nothing can be changed. This is how the list behaves when your role does not allow editing map objects.
Loading and Empty States
| State | What you see |
|---|---|
| No folders set up | Only the unnamed group at the bottom, holding every object |
| An empty folder | The header appears with its checkbox and arrow, and expands to nothing |
| No saved objects at all | An empty card with just the Done button |
| An object of an unknown type | The row appears with a blank type label but works normally |
| View-only mode | No edit buttons anywhere; checkboxes and View still work |
How This Connects
Everything in this list lives in this device's own storage, tied to the map you opened it from.
- The objects are the markers, freehand lines, and polygons saved against that map, including zones drawn in Task Maps and anything placed from the Maps tab. Markers brought in from the system appear here too, labelled as Marker.
- The folders are stored on the device as well, each with its own on-or-off setting. Because folder settings persist, the map opens the way you left it.
- Toggling saves immediately. Each tap is written to the device's storage and passed to the map, which is why there is no save button. Folder changes are also flagged for upload so they can be carried to the server once the app has a connection.
- Visibility is per device. Hiding an object clears it from your map, not from anyone else's, and it does not delete the object.
Because it is all local, this list works completely offline. You can reorganize, hide, and show objects with no connection, and folder changes you make go out when the connection returns. The base map itself still needs a connection the first time an area is loaded, so an object can be toggled on while the map tiles underneath it are blank.
Troubleshooting
| If this happens | What to do |
|---|---|
| An object is checked but not on the map | Zoom or pan to where it is, and confirm the base map has loaded. A polygon drawn with fewer than three points never draws. |
| The whole folder toggled when you meant one object | Tap the object's row rather than the folder's checkbox. Retick the objects you want. |
| Edit buttons are missing | The list is in view-only mode. Ask an administrator whether your role allows editing map objects. |
| A folder checkbox changed by itself | It follows its contents: it fills when all objects are checked and empties when none are. |
| The card is too tall to use | Collapse the folders you are not working in. The card sizes itself to its contents. |
| Objects you expect are missing | The list shows objects saved against the map you opened it from. Open it from the map that holds them. |
| Your changes are not on another responder's map | Visibility is per device. Hiding an object only affects your own map. |
| A row has no type label | Its type is not one the list recognizes. The checkbox and View still work. |
